The Du-Rites – Funk Innovators Bridging Eras
The Du-Rites are a New York–based funk duo comprised of Jay Mumford (drums, bass, production) and Pablo Martin (guitar, bass, keys). Together, they craft raw, cinematic funk steeped in the grit of 60s and 70s soul while injecting a distinctly modern edge. Their music channels everything from The Meters and The J.B.’s to garage rock and hip hop breakbeats, resulting in a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original.
In 2025, The Du-Rites returned to Village Live Records with their latest EP “Tenement”, a gritty, groove-driven collection of funk instrumentals capturing the energy of city life. Led by the single “Bucky’s Groove” — a heartfelt tribute to Jay’s late father, whose Sonor Safari drum kit sparked the group’s creation — the record blends raw breaks, fuzz guitars, and heavy organ grooves that hit hard in both headphones and on the dancefloor.
Since forming in 2015, The Du-Rites have released several acclaimed albums, collaborated with funk legends, and built a loyal global following among DJs, collectors, and funk enthusiasts. With each release, they continue to push the boundaries of contemporary instrumental funk, bridging the gap between old-school authenticity and modern innovation.
