French-Japanese producer Mayaewk (Laurent Maya Garcia) has been crafting music since the late ‘90s, developing a distinct sound that fuses raw, nostalgic textures with intricate sample manipulation. His musical journey began at age 10, learning guitar and experimenting with a 4-track cassette recorder before diving into beat production in 2001 with a Yamaha A3000 sampler. Influenced by genres ranging from hip-hop to shoegaze, Mayaewk has carved out a unique space in the lo-fi and instrumental hip-hop world.

Since launching the Mayaewk alias in 2017, he has steadily gained a loyal following through releases on Bandcamp and SoundCloud, earning recognition in the underground lo-fi and Instagram beat scenes. His work is characterized by warm, tape-saturated beats and organic sampling techniques that capture the essence of classic lo-fi production.

In 2023, Mayaewk released "The Village", an 8-track EP of playful lo-fi instrumentals, crafted entirely on his signature SP-404 and MPC2000XL samplers. Through creative production techniques and carefully selected samples, he tells vivid sonic stories while maintaining the raw aesthetic of lo-fi beatmaking.

Following this, Mayaewk teamed up with longtime friend Croupnoop to release "Beat Retreat", a 10-track instrumental hip-hop EP steeped in warmth, nostalgia, and rich analog textures. Brimming with saturated tape hiss and unpolished charm, the project is a must-listen for fans of raw, authentic lo-fi beats.
